FX Mud Paint™ (Smooth & Coarse) are premium products, producing many different special effects on surfaces such as
plaster, plasterboard, cement blocks, mud bricks, bare-faced brick and cement render.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and free of dirt, dust, grease, loose or flaking paint, and loose surface plaster.
Efflorescence or mould on masonry or concrete surfaces must be treated. Flatten gloss surfaces by thoroughly sanding
and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Then apply FX Lemon Tree Creek® Sealer Undercoat as required.
Note: Mud Bricks apply FX Mud Paint™ directly onto bricks. No undercoat is required.
Application
Stir contents thoroughly before and during use with a broad, flat stirrer, using an upward action, or preferably use a
power-driven mixing paddle.
Note: Thinning is usually required for the first coat. Thin with 100 ml to 300 ml of water per litre to ease application.
Note: In damp and humid conditions, the addition of an anti-mould solution is recommended for exterior use.
Brush/Roller: Use a long nap roller and apply 2–3 coats for a more effective finish. Apply the final coat (i.e. second or
third coat) with a brush in a criss-cross motion to achieve a soft, textured lime effect.
Note: When using brush application for the final coat, it is recommended that the product be diluted with 1–2 litres of
water to a 15 litre pail.
Note: Do not apply in direct sunlight.
Airless/Conventional spray: Suitable for application using all standard spray equipment.
Approximate Spreading Rate: 4–8 square metres per litre, depending on application technique and surface roughness.
Approximate Film Thickness per coat: Wet: 250 Microns; Dry: 80 Microns.
Requires: 2–3 coats.
Thinner: Water.
Tinting: Maximum 150 ml per litre. (Refer to colour chart for tinting specifications).
Method: Brush, roller or airless/conventional spray equipment.
Drying Times (at 25 °C): Touch: 2 Hours; Recoat: 6 Hours.
Note: Do not apply paint if the air temperature or substrate temperature is below 10 °C or above 35 °C.
The temperature should not fall below 10 °C during the drying process.
Clean-up: Water. Safety: Dust Mask. Gloss Level: Less than 5% at a 60° viewing angle.
