FX French Wash produces many different special effects on all prepared interior surfaces such as plaster and
plasterboard, and on bagged and rendered walls.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and free of dirt, dust, grease, loose or flaking paint, and loose surface plaster.
Efflorescence or mould on masonry or concrete surfaces must be treated. Flatten gloss surfaces by thoroughly sanding
and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Then apply FX Lemon Tree Creek® Sealer Undercoat as required. Follow with two
coats of FX Lemon Tree Creek® Semi-Gloss, white or tinted. Apply FX French Wash when base paint is completely dry.
Stir contents thoroughly before use with a broad, flat stirrer using an upward action.
Brush/Roller: Use a 75 mm or 100 mm brush or a short or long nap roller to apply the first coat. While still wet, use a rag
rolling technique with a cheesecloth, sea sponge, or brush in a criss-cross motion to produce the desired effect. Several
coats can be applied to achieve different finishes, but ensure first coat is dry before proceeding to further applications.
Note: Always keep a wet edge and work in a random, zigzag motion from top to bottom.
For a traditional marble effect, brush on two different colours in a random zigzag pattern. Smear the two colours
together using a cheesecloth; this is the marble base. Next, dip a feather into a different colour and draw the tip
diagonally over the surface to form veins. Repeat feathering until satisfied. Simple, uncomplicated feathering is best. We
suggest that novice applicators practice this technique before commencing a project. To protect, apply one coat of FX
Super Matt Clear.
Note: FX Scumble may be added to the paint to slow down drying time for large areas and during hot or humid weather
conditions. Add no more than 10%.
